1) GERI HALLIWELL- G-A-Y

This is the ultimate compliment. Geri Halliwell wrote this song after her experience on stage at G-A-Y as a spice girl, and used it as a bonus track on her first number 1 solo single, 'Mi Chico Latino'. Despite her phenominal success and busy schedule, Geri still finds time to perform at G-A-Y and puts much time and effort into her shows. Adored by G-A-Y customers and crew alike, Geri Halliwell will remain a true icon for a long time to come. What better way to start the album, than with the song that says it all.

2) KYLIE- BETTER THE DEVIL

Without a doubt, Kylie is the undisputed queen of G-A-Y. 'Better The Devil You Know' is the G-A-Y anthem and is played every Saturday night at precisely 12:30am. When the opening shakey beat starts, an erruption of cheers and whistles flood the venue, followed by a grand announcement that showtime is just an hour away. By now, the party is well and truly underway, and all it takes is one Kylie song. There's no artist quite like Kylie, and each of her G-A-Y shows are more spectacular than the last. You just have to be there!

3). STEPS - LOVE'S GOT A HOLD ON MY HEART
Steps sum up what G-A-Y is all about: fun, pop & party. The winning formula of non-pretentious music and gorgeous smiling faces, together with kick-ass dance routines are what make Steps so popular. Steps have been performing at G-A-Y since the release of their very first single, and they haven't forgotten their loyal and ever-expanding gay fanbase. Performing at G-A-Y is their chance to say thank you to their gay fans for all the support they have given them over the past few years. 'Loves Got A Hold On My Heart' is a show favourite. Whenever it is performed, it's wall to wall wagging fingers and heart-grasping movements as 2000 loyal gay fans mimic the campest cuties in pop!

4). SPICE GIRLS - WANNABE
Having the Spice Girls perform at G-A-Y was an unbelievable coup. They were in their 6th week as Britain's number 1 with 'Wannabe'. Five girls, each with their own distinct image, took to the stage and performed their delightful slice of pop, along with an album's worth of material. Despite having never heard any other song by the Spice Girls, the G-A-Y audience never tired of the performance. Each song went down a storm, and naturally, they all went on to become number 1 singles. Not only was this an exclusive peek at the Spice Girls first album, but it was their first ever live show. 'wannabe' simply had to make it onto the G-A-Y album. It's a proud part of
G-A-Y history!

5). ALL SAINTS - PURE SHORES
Yet another exclusive for G-A-Y in July 1998. This was the first live show from the girl band of the moment, All Saints. Fresh from scoring a top 5 smash and two number 1 hit singles, All Saints were ready to take G-A-Y to new levels. It was the event that everybody was talking about, and it happened to fall on the most important day in the gay calender, the Gay Pride March. This particular year, Gay Pride had been cancelled, and people needed cheering up. An extraordinary coup from one of Britain's biggest selling groups did just that, and just about everybody turned out to witness one of the most amazing live shows ever to take place at G-A-Y. 'Pure Shores' marked a more mature direction in the girls' career, going straight in the charts at number 1, and remaining a club and radio favourite to this day.

6). BOYZONE - NO MATTER WHAT
Without a doubt, Boyzone are one of the most loyal groups we've had at G-A-Y. We were with them at the beginning, and they have continued to show their support to G-A-Y, by returning to perform at least once a year. 'No Matter What' was adopted as a gay anthem, making it the highlight of any Boyzone performance at G-A-Y.

7). WESTLIFE - SWEAR IT AGAIN
One of the nicest and easiest groups to work with are Westlife. Westlife have now performed at G-A-Y twice, and look like being as loyal as Boyzone. Their second performance was particualarly special, as they launched their 5th single at G-A-Y, which became their 5th consecutive single to enter the charts at number 1, making them record-breakers. 'Swear It Again' was Westlife's first number 1, and will always be special to them. For that reason alone, it's the song that made it on here!

8). 5IVE - KEEP ON MOVIN'
This is G-A-Y getting laddy! The image 5ive put out is not the total truth ... at G-A-Y they're not the bad boys they like to think they are, they're just nice guys. 'Keep On Movin' was 5ive's first number 1, and by far their poppiest song to date. A definate G-A-Y favourite!

9). S CLUB 7 - S CLUB PARTY
S Club 7 were our last act of the millenium - you couldn't wish for a better way to see out the 90s than with an S Club party! Tina, Jon, Bradley, Rachel, paul, Jo & Hannah were delighted to be asked to perform at G-A-Y, and G-A-Y were delighted to have them. S Club 7 burst onto the music scene with their catchy number 1 hit, 'Bring It All Back' and quickly followed it up with this funky little number. Bubbling with energy, the S Club clan treated G-A-Y to hit after hit, and the 20th Century was left behind in style!

10). VENGABOYS - BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
The Vengaboys took time out of their busy schedule to perform at G-A-Y. In fact, they made their way to G-A-Y fresh from performing at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party. Like so many acts who perform at G-A-Y, the Vengaboys are good fn, game for a party and attitude-free.

11). A1 - READY OR NOT
G-A-Y has supported A1 since the build-up to their debut single. A1 have performed at G-A-Y non-stop since then, and 'Ready Or Not' is their biggest hit to date. A powerful pop song with a huge chunk of the 80s sound thrown in, this song is perfect for the G-A-Y album. We love A1!

12). TIN TIN OUT feat. EMMA BUNTON -
WHAT I AM
Another Spice Girl who kept her promise to come back and perform at G-A-Y. This was another special performance for us, as it was the height of the media frenzy over Emma and Geri's chart battle, with them both having their singles released on the same day. G-A-Y had the best of both worlds, having the number 1 and number 2 artists, as Geri was already in the club's hall of fame

13). BILLIE - HONEY TO THE BEE
Despite not actually being old enough to attend G-A-Y as a customer, Billie loves to perform at the club. Her most recent performance hit the headlines of most national papers when she displayed more than her singing talents! Thanks for the mammories, Billie! 'Honey To The Bee' is Billie's most beautiful hit, displaying her vocal range, and showing that talented teens are not just a myth!

14). B*WITCHED - C'EST LA VIE
B*Witched first performed this song at G-A-Y for our 3rd anniversary at The Astoria. They were number 1 at the time, and the G-A-Y boys and girls just loved it! Who would have thought that pop music and riverdance would mix? B*witched have since equaled their success of 'C'est La Vie' several times, but the highlight of their show is always their first number 1. "I Foight Loike me daa" is a line with so many levels!

15). HONEYZ - WON'T TAKE IT LYING DOWN
Honeyz performed 'Won't Take It Lying Down' as an unknown track back in 1999. The performance was cool and powerful, and it was obvious that this song would be a hit. Definately one of the coolest female groups this country has, the Honeyz are best known for their vocal talent, both in the music industry and to anyone who ever heard one of their hits.

16). ALICE DEEJAY - BACK IN MY LIFE
Alice Deejay are one of the most addictive dance acts around. No sooner has their latest tune left your head, a new one is storming the charts. 'Back In My Life' was Alice Deejay's second hit, and it hung in the top 10 for christmas and most of the new year. When Alice Deejay performed at G-A-Y, the entire audience were stamping their feet and begging for more. This is what dance music is all about.

17). MOUSSE T vs HOT N JUICY - HORNY
'Horny' is an anthem in almost every club. The Hot N Juicy girls appeared at G-A-Y in 1999 and performed this song live. Everybody loved the show, and most were surprised that the girls sound better live than on cd. Easily one of the best dance tunes of last century!

18). TAMPERER feat. MAYA - FEEL IT
Maya knows how to put on a hell of a show, and you can't go far wrong in a gay club with a song about the Wizard Of Oz! Maya performed this number 1 hit single in 1999, and appeared on stage dressed as Dorothy from the above musical. Complete with fake Toto, she feigned confusion as whirlwind sound effects could be heard. Without warning, the dancers threw 'Toto' across the stage, and ripped off Maya's flannel dress to reveal a spectacular red sequined frock and those famous ruby slippers. As Maya is no stranger to musicals, it was hardly surprising that she could belt out a note or two! Definately one of the campest shows G-A-Y has seen!

19). ANT & DEC - LET'S GET READY TO RHUMBLE
No compilation should be without this track, least of all G-A-Y! When Ant & Dec were making music, G-A-Y was always somewhere they loved to perform. Now hugely successful as TV presenters, Ant & Dec cannot escape their cheesy past. 'Let's Get Ready To Rhumble' is the track they will always be remembered for. Love it or hate it, you all remember the words. The question is, do they?

20). RuPAUL - SUPERMODEL
One of the most exciting moments here at G-A-Y was when we played host to the self-proclaimed 'Supermodel Of The World'. RuPaul, probably the most beautiful drag queen of them all, has now performed twice at G-A-Y. This track, taken from the motion picture 'Brady Bunch - The Movie' is a gay must-have. It's a chance for all the beaustiful people to strutt their stuff and be proud of what they've got.

1).  GLORIA GAYNOR - I WILL SURVIVE
The ultimate disco survivor gave everybody at G-A-Y a chance to hear the most well-known disco classic in a stunning live show. Gloria Gaynor is both a talented performer and an icon for many, so it was no surprise when G-A-Y was packed to the rafters with adoring gay fans, who went wild at the piano intro of this particular song. 'I Will Survive', both a UK and US number 1, and currently the UK's 17th best selling single to date, surprisingly started out as a B-Side.

2). DONNA SUMMER - BAD GIRLS
Believe it or not, this extraordinary diva has indeed graced the G-A-Y stage. G-A-Y has seen many performances from many artists over the years, but the performance from Donna Summer has to be the most strong and powerful effort yet. Having Donna Summer perform at G-A-Y was the highlight of 1999. Not only was it a once in a lifetime chance to see one of the biggest performers in pop history, but it was a chance to dispell rumours surrounding Donna Summer and her views on homosexuality.

3. GABRIELLE - RISE
Gabrielle has been making hit records since 1993. Currently the UKs premiere soul diva, her number 1 hit single 'Rise' has gone on to become one of the most popular tunes of 2000. When Gabrielle performed 'Rise' at G-A-Y, it was very well recieved, and went straight into the UK charts at number 1 the following day. Gabrielle is hugely popular with the G-A-Y audience, and knows how to give them exactly what they want. The mother of catchy but credible songs, a strong voice and big hair. What more could you ask for?

4. LOUISE - NAKED
Probably the best-known hit for this ex-member of Eternal. Louise has performed at G-A-Y 4 times, but the most memorable one was a performance that was organised in favour of World AIDS Day. Louise put on a spectacular show straight from winning 'Best Female Vocalist' at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party. No matter how many times Louise performs at G-A-Y in the future, you can guarantee that 'Naked' will be in the show somewhere. It's as popular now as it was when it was first released back in 1996.

5. GINA G - OOH AAH ... JUST A LITTLE BIT
The Eurovision Song Contest has always meant a great deal to
G-A-Y. Every year without fail, we always have the UK representative perform for us. Gina G represented the UK in 1996, ranking 8th with her massive number 1 hit, 'Ooh Aah ... Just A Little Bit', and recieved a hero's welcome when she performed at
G-A-Y soon after the contest. Gina G is a marvellous performer who always makes a huge effort to make her shows as visual and exciting as possible. 'ooh Aah...' is one of those records that will never, and should never die. Not at G-A-Y, anyway!

6. DANA INTERNATIONAL - DIVA
Dana International represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998. Symbolising freedom, Dana International was the first transsexual ever to enter Eurovision, and her triumphant win made it all the more special. Dana first performed at G-A-Y for our third anniversary in The Astoria, alongside B*Witched, who were in their first week at number 1 with 'C'est La Vie'. Although the UK entrant for Eurovision that year, Imaani, came second, Dana International was not met by hostility. Instead, the G-A-Y crowd warmed to her, cheering and going absolutely wild as she walked on stage. This night turned out to be a huge seller, and thousands of G-A-Y goers had to be turned away from the door due to the sheer numbers of people inside waiting to catch a glimpse of the headline-grabbing Israeli babe.

7. NICKI FRENCH - DON'T PLAY THAT SONG AGAIN
And so we come to the final part of the Eurovision section of the album. Nicki French was the last person to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest, and despite being predicted to be in the top 5 placings with 'Don't Play That Song Again', she came 16th, scoring the worst ever placing for the UK. 'I blame our beef' says Nicki. Whether that's true or not, one thing's for sure. It certainly didn't deserve to do so badly, and this was reflected by the reaction she got when she graced the stage at G-A-Y 1 week after the contest. Nicki sang her Eurovision entry as customers waved their UK flags. Some were even wearing T-Shirts carrying the slogan 'We Woz Robbed'. This song contains all the essential ingredients for Eurovision. It's up-beat with a catchy chorous, and a fun dance routine. Maybe it was the beef!

8. DANNII MINOGUE - THIS IS IT
Dannii was the first of the Minogue sisters to perform at G-A-Y. It was her performance at Gay Pride, of this song in particular, that secured a date for her at G-A-Y. 'This Is It', Dannii's top 10 hit from 1993, is a reminder of her early days. Since then, she has transformed from cute and bubbly into a vampish sex chick. Dannii continues to support G-A-Y whenever she can, and her show is an absolute must-see. Always different, whether it be her look, stage set or selection of hits, Danii's performances are always guaranteed not to disappoint.

9. DINA CARROLL - AIN'T NO MAN
Dina Carroll's classic hit 'Ain't No Man' has un-intentionally become a gay anthem, and with it, Dina has become a household name. Despite a couple of set-backs over the years, including a hereditary ear condition that could have cost her career, Dina is set to return to the British music scene in the near future. Dina Carroll first performed at G-A-Y in late 1998. A beautiful diva with amazing vocals took to the stage and belted out a fabulous selection of her hits, including this one. By the end of the show, Dina was sad to leave the stage, although at the same time she was still very nervous, having just performed to 2000 screaming fans - something she had done without for a couple of years. Dina Carroll is an incredibly talented lady with a bright future both behind and in front of her. Her 2 multi-platinum albums have earned her a place in the hearts of many across the globe. This is just one of her classics.

10. MARTINE McCUTCHEON - PERFECT MOMENT
Martine McCutcheon has changed the nation's perception of her from loud and brassy Tiffany Mitchell into smooth and sexy songstress. Martine first performed at G-A-Y in 1999, when she delved into her album and picked out her favourite tunes to perform for us. Among them was this well known number 1 hit, 'Perfect Moment'. Many were surprised at how strong Martine's voice actually was, and even more were amused when she stopped her dramatic and powerful performance to say "I've come a long way since Walford, ain't I?'" in her famous cockney chirp. For as long as she's making music, and no doubt beyond, Martine McCutcheon will always be welcome at G-A-Y. Her powerful performance of this song alone is just one reason!

11. DEBBIE HARRY - FRENCH KISSIN' IN THE USA
Debbie Harry performed at G-A-Y in 1994. As a solo artist, 'French Kissin' In The USA' is her biggest hit to date, and the G-A-Y crowd were treated to this song, plus a whole load of others in a fantastic live show. Probably the highlight of the show was the finale, as Debbie whipped off her bright pink wig (which nobody guessed it was), and threw it into the audience, in true drag queen style, revealing her scraped back mousey brown hair. It's always the divas who know how best to please the G-A-Y audience!

12. BANANARAMA - ROBERT DE NIRO'S WAITING 2000
No night at G-A-Y feels complete without a Bananarama song, and no year feels complete without a Bananarama performance. Bananarama are regulars to the G-A-Y stage, and definately one of our favourite acts. Although there are now only 2 in the group, Bananarama are sounding better than ever with this exclusive
re-mix of their classic 1984 hit, 'Robert De Niro's Waiting'. The Bananarama girls, Sara and Keren, are always up for a laugh, or failing that, a good bitch! They know how to get the G-A-Y audience begging for more with their famous camp dance routines, and their comedy-like personas - Sara being the reserved, quiet one, and Keren being the drunken lunatic! Bananarama are still as popular as they were when they burst onto the music scene 18 years ago.

13. BELINDA CARLISLE - HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH
Whether 80s music is your thing or not, everybody loves this 1988 smash. Belinda Carlisle, the famous Californian warbler, has performed at G-A-Y a number of times. The former member of all girl group, the Go Gos, rocks the G-A-Y club with style. From this, her very first hit, right through her Greatest Hits collection, Belinda treats the audience to all her classics, and always saves the best for last. An encore of 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth' gets the
G-A-Y crowd in a frenzy, and then sadly, it's the end of the show. Until next time.

14. THE HUMAN LEAGUE - DON'T YOU WANT ME
What an honour it was for The Human League to perform for us for the first time at G-A-Y. The legendary gods of 80s electrica play G-A-Y at least once a year. Finding a favourite track to put on the album was a hard task, as so many of their hits are spectacularly different in their own way. However, their biggest hit is 'Don't You Want Me', and it still has that edge over the rest of them. Philip, Susan and Joanne sound better with each performance at G-A-Y, and despite the lack of new material these days, the demand for them is getting bigger and bigger. Their weird and wonderful outfits, together with very strong vocals and absolute classics are what make The Human League so popular, particularly at G-A-Y.

15. SISTER SLEDGE - FRANKIE
Surprisingly, this was the only UK number 1 for the successful American family group back in 1985. Even more surprisingly, these girls found more fame in the UK than in the US. Sister Sledge perform regularly at G-A-Y, and boy do we love it! Maybe it's the sheer campness of the songs, or the fact that these ladies contributed so much to disco that keeps the G-A-Y audience coming back for more. Whatever it is, let's not forget that without the likes of Sister Sledge, pop music wouldn't be where it is today.

16. MICHELLE GAYLE - DO YOU KNOW
Many a soap star, and indeed, many an Eastender has tried their luck at singing. However, only a low percentage actually manage to keep churning out the hits for any length of time, and Michelle Gayle is one of the few. Michelle Gayle has performed at G-A-Y more times than you've had hot dinners, much to the delight of many G-A-Y clubbers. 'Do You Know', Michelle's number 6 hit back in 1997, is a beautiful pop song about a woman who wants her man back after a bust-up. Easily one of her best performances was in 1998, when Michelle gave the audience a blinding performance of her greatest hits, which included this wonderful track. Michelle is currently enjoying motherhood, and plans to return to showbusiness in the future.

17. SHOLA AMA - YOU MIGHT NEED SOMEBODY
Shola Ama performed at G-A-Y as a new artist in 1997. Her debut hit single, 'You Might Need Somebody' reached number 4 in the UK charts, and she has since collaborated with the likes of Divine Comedy and Glamma Kid, earning her even more credibility than she started out with. Big things are round the corner for Shola, no doubt including more performances at G-A-Y!

18. REPUBLICA - DROP DEAD GORGEOUS
A performance by Republica was something very different for G-A-Y. As a change from pop acts, G-A-Y decided to shake up it's audience with the sound of alternative music from Saffron and the boys. Republica gave it their all, and as predicted, the place went wild for them. After a somewhat shakey start when Saffron forgot to switch her mic on, she got the audience on side by exclaiming "Wouldn't you know it! There's never a knob around when you need one!" This was met by cheers and whistles from the audience.
However, the reaction to the much anticipated 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' was far louder.

19. EAST 17 - STAY ANOTHER DAY
Okay, confession time. East 17 never actually performed at G-A-Y. (shock, horror!), but we did get a performance from E-17, the new group formed by 3 original members, Brian, Terry and Jon, and what a performance it was! Brian Harvey's vocals were amazing, and their newer RnB sound was just as well received as their old hits. Sadly, E-17 have since dispanded, although Brian Harvey is planning a solo career. When that happens, he's bound to return to G-A-Y, and judging by the audience reaction towards him, he'll have no problems with his new venture. At least not at G-A-Y, anyway.

20. ALISON MOYET - THERE ARE WORSE THINGS I COULD DO
Aaahhh. The last song of the album, but by no means the end of the story! Alsion Moyet, formerly one half of 80s duo Yazoo, is no stranger to the G-A-Y stage. With every show she gives her all, and one show in particular saw her perform this camp classic, a song written for the part of Rizzo in the hit musical 'Grease'. The G-A-Y audience have a great respect for Alison, who has always gone out of her way to let her gay fans know how much they mean to her. A perfect way to end the album. A fantastic diva. A fantastic song.
